Sunday 26th February 2017, Lake John – Drennan – winter League round 5

Shocking weather in the morning and it was looking like it was in for the day but luckily the rain subsided and we only had the strong winds to deal with.

Graham Baker, Robbo’s, peg 10, 44-12-0

It was my partner this week that showed them the way home with a respectable weight today considering the weather, ice cold wind and rain to start and when the rain blew through the wind just got stronger as storm DORIS was gaining momentum, 6mm pellet on the short pole for Grahamskimmers and bream were dinning on the short 6mm pole line

Sunday 19th February 2017, Lake John – Drennan – winter League round 4

Mid week open produced 100lb so expectations were high and It was that man Amos that headed the field today where some people even struggled to get a bite, so the winter is far from over it would seem…

Martin Amos rd4 drennan WL 2017
Martin Amos, Lake John Fishery, peg 4, 37-0-0

With Bill Everitt winning the Wednesday open match this week on the pellet from peg 39 which is located at the front of the lake, Martin was optimistic with his draw on the front bank, and it was a 9m pellet line that produced most of the fish, feeding 4mm and 6mm pellets and a 6mm on the hook this was a very positive approach but it wasn’t like this for everyone and some people even struggled for a bite which shocked some people having seen the results this week, maximum points for “Old Amos”…

Sunday 5th February 2017, Lake John – Drennan – winter League round 3

We have had two weeks of shocking weather since the last round and then a lift in temperature on the lead up to this round so the hopes were high and a few fish should be caught

Chris vandervliet rd3 5.2.2017
Chris Vandervliet, Drennan-Bait Tech, peg 41, peg 29-8-0, 28pts

Chris drew a peg that you would of least wanted to fish today this peg only goes in when its a full house and as the whistle blew Chris fished the peg like it was any other good peg and with a generous amount a feed to start to entice a few fish into the peg and it was the shorter 6m line that came up trumps along with the odd margin fish catching on maggot and caster over ground bait, so all in all a good league round for him and his partner Geoff Penny.

80% ice over knocked the weights back, we forget sometimes how hard it can be to catch a few fish in the winter, Farrell takes the win today but only just

ken farrell 9.12.2015
Ken Farrell, Lake John Fishery, peg 33, 16-12-0, 28pts

Its fished just about as hard as i can ever remember but Farrell left the waggler in the bag and opted to fish the pole basically because that was all he could do due to huge ice coverage, a steady five hour plod through his extensive angling knowledge kept him ahead of the of the field today in this second round of the Drennan winter league, maggot to the hook over a bed of ground bait caught everything that was feeding in the peg, well done Ken

Its that ponce Mick Scanlan at it again borrowing more bait to fuel his peg…

Mick Scan winter league final 2016
Mick Scanlan, Oakwood Angling, peg 10, 80-8-0 28pts (standing in for Joe Lonergan)

Mick has taken to borrowing bait instead of buying it bread yesterday and maggots today the gezza is unbelievable but he knows how to catch a few and to say he had the match in the bag from the off is an understatement he has trebled his nearest rival, Mick and Kenny Farrell have been wagglering there way through a few matches lately and so Mick didn’t even set a pole up he just stayed with the feeder and the wag, early doors it was all feeder work with two red maggots and micros in a cage feeder, for a few carp and then a look on the waggler line for a few silvers, the ponce smashed it, 5 carp put back for the mandatory 10lb each and three smaller carp in the net with a few skimmers

Bitter cold winds today and the fishing was about as hard as it could get, one of those days your glad to get home in the warm…

Gary McClair 14.2.2016
Gary McClair, Hollow Angling, peg 14, 33-0-0, 28pts

Gary is never out of this peg so its about time he done it properly, today was a strange one when the sun was out and the wind dropped it was warm but when that wind picked up it was bitter cold and the fish were not happy, Gary on the other hand had a great day fishing the long pole and pellet 6 inches over depth to keep the rig still, the under toe on this bank was very strong and presentation was tricky at times but a good effort from the Hollow Angling rod showing everyone how it should be done, skimmers and bream the jammy draw bag git….

First match after a complete ice over and it has caught a few people out as to how well it has fished and it was a close match at the top with top four netting 30lb bags

Tony Cassidy 24.1.2016

Tony Cassidy, Maver-Image, peg 12, 38-0-0, 28pts

Tony drew last weeks section winning peg and had a decent de-brief from Bob Jarvis section winner before the match and took all the necessary artillery that he needed to the peg like any good angler would, long pole bulk feeding micro pellet with a juicy 4mm expander on the hook, Tony fished the peg long at 14.5m and also caught past the feed, proper fish, you know them big splashy ones that you drop in your kept that you just cant keep quiet, all these fish were assisted by his very own “surpurb”, new pellet float range, Tony’s words not mine, however they are good, you are a star just like your little sister…….well done mate
