There is a new King John and its yours truly officially now known as OLD KING COL, the banter was flying and the ex King ( Ricky Martinelli )is now a peasant again, i must admit the draw was kind but the job still had to get done, and with the far bank reed margin looking inviting it was a shallow 6mm expander that tempted a few fish early, and it was my first time using the GORILLA elastic which i have renamed it steering wheel elastic because when you hook them carp you just steer them around all the snags straight into your landing net, PUKKA stuff, a few skimmers short and left hand margin was all it took to be crowned the new King of the Spring league.

There was some worried anglers today as only three spaces remain for next weeks final and nine people today had a lot of work to do, the banter was rife at the breakfast table and the nerves started to show at the draw, great bunch of lads and this week Colin fished one line tight to the far bank with corn to the hook and sat it out for the carp, the wind blew as storm Katie started to unravel with rain and hail at one point but eventually the carp got on the feed and the scale where exercised, well done to the last three qualifiers this week.

He didn’t look happy when the draw was done and it would be fair to say there was a strong smell of drains as this hasn’t been a great area of late and King John has had a bit of stick all week after a disaster in this very peg last week weighing in only 5lb, he’s bum bum was twitching i can tell ya, however on the day the peg was solid and King John is back and in the final, skimmers down the track and carp long down the left hand margin, pellet to the hook and micro pellet feed

Keith got the job done this week with a tidy win and with only two more qualifying rounds left its putting a few of the regular faces under pressure to qualify for the all banter final in three weeks time, Keith adopted the micro kinder pot approach and kept rotating his lines keeping the match tidy and under control at all times, good effort mate, Big Ricky (last years winner and self named KING JOHN) must be trembling as he failed to qualify this week, lol

Formerly J+B Tackle winter league, this event is now in its 12th year and we have hosted it for 8 years and so it was an honour to be invited again this year…

Got the invite and went to the peg with an idea it was going to be a bit tuff, so a bit of micro pellet and dead maggot was definitely going to get me a bit but how wrong was I, so a 4mm expander pellet to the hook tight to the far bank and a micro pot also filled with 4mm expander pellet almost every put in seemed to keep a few fish lined up, this victory on mothers day gives me a chance to remember my dear old Mum who passed January two years ago, I think she was over looking the draw this morning, thanks mother xx
