Sunday 26th February 2017, Lake John – Drennan – winter League round 5

Shocking weather in the morning and it was looking like it was in for the day but luckily the rain subsided and we only had the strong winds to deal with.

Graham Baker, Robbo’s, peg 10, 44-12-0

It was my partner this week that showed them the way home with a respectable weight today considering the weather, ice cold wind and rain to start and when the rain blew through the wind just got stronger as storm DORIS was gaining momentum, 6mm pellet on the short pole for Grahamskimmers and bream were dinning on the short 6mm pole line

In for a Penny in for 76lb and a match win as Geoff does the biz and continues his run of form

Geoff Penny, Hollow angling, peg 32, 76-8-0

Storm Doris seems to be showing its self so the long poles were shortened to 6m and with a bit of extra line laid on presentation was just about bearable, Geoff maintains this great run of form presenting 6mm expander pellets on 3 lines and caught on all three, big hook bait big fish was the plan and the plan worked, a windy but successful match for Mr Penny

Roy Stanley this week lead the rest with a respectable 54b of mixed fish

Roy Stanley 15th Feb 2017
Roy Stanley, Lake John Fishery, peg 3, 54-12-0

Not many matches being held on the bottom lake recently due to the bad weather so it was nice to see a few anglers enjoying a bit of better weather and a few fish, Roy fished three line rotated maggots and pellet, two lines across to the far bank and a margin line to his left giving him a fairly comfortable victory this week, back up weight were not to shabby to be fair, thinking of running a league in the next few weeks….. let me know if your up for it!

Bill Everitt smashes a ton of silvers in mid Febuary…… unheard of, unbelievable

Bill Everitt 102lb febuary 2017
Bill Everitt, Lake John-Redbridge, peg 39, 102-4-0

A week earlier we had bitter cold easterly winds and fish were sparse and then this week we get a little bit of sun it feels like spring and the silver fish go on the munch, Bill had a red letter day catching all day long on the short 6m line hooking and feeding 6mm expander pellet, he caught that many fish i even made a short film (have a look on FB), a lovely man and a great days sport, this is one person looking forward to the 4th round of the Drennan WL this coming Sunday

Sunday 19th February 2017, Lake John – Drennan – winter League round 4

Mid week open produced 100lb so expectations were high and It was that man Amos that headed the field today where some people even struggled to get a bite, so the winter is far from over it would seem…

Martin Amos rd4 drennan WL 2017
Martin Amos, Lake John Fishery, peg 4, 37-0-0

With Bill Everitt winning the Wednesday open match this week on the pellet from peg 39 which is located at the front of the lake, Martin was optimistic with his draw on the front bank, and it was a 9m pellet line that produced most of the fish, feeding 4mm and 6mm pellets and a 6mm on the hook this was a very positive approach but it wasn’t like this for everyone and some people even struggled for a bite which shocked some people having seen the results this week, maximum points for “Old Amos”…

Sunday 5th February 2017, Lake John – Drennan – winter League round 3

We have had two weeks of shocking weather since the last round and then a lift in temperature on the lead up to this round so the hopes were high and a few fish should be caught

Chris vandervliet rd3 5.2.2017
Chris Vandervliet, Drennan-Bait Tech, peg 41, peg 29-8-0, 28pts

Chris drew a peg that you would of least wanted to fish today this peg only goes in when its a full house and as the whistle blew Chris fished the peg like it was any other good peg and with a generous amount a feed to start to entice a few fish into the peg and it was the shorter 6m line that came up trumps along with the odd margin fish catching on maggot and caster over ground bait, so all in all a good league round for him and his partner Geoff Penny.

80% ice over knocked the weights back, we forget sometimes how hard it can be to catch a few fish in the winter, Farrell takes the win today but only just

ken farrell 9.12.2015
Ken Farrell, Lake John Fishery, peg 33, 16-12-0, 28pts

Its fished just about as hard as i can ever remember but Farrell left the waggler in the bag and opted to fish the pole basically because that was all he could do due to huge ice coverage, a steady five hour plod through his extensive angling knowledge kept him ahead of the of the field today in this second round of the Drennan winter league, maggot to the hook over a bed of ground bait caught everything that was feeding in the peg, well done Ken

roy-makins-12-11-16

The weather man said it would start raining at 7am and it did and only eased for the weigh in, Roy fished a 4mm expanded pellet most of the way across to the far bank and land 27 carp not a silver fish in sight, this is the second week that the silver fish haven’t showed, Roy wasn’t complaining

steve-crawley-2016
Steve Crawley, Redbridge Lakes, peg 14, 54-12-0 golden peg

Steve has been a regular at the lake for a while now and has honed his skills on the top lake but without achieving the top honours well today that all changed and lets face it if your going to win you might as well wait until your on a golden peg, pellet attack for Steve on two lines 12m was the long line and a 6m line both produced a steady run of fish without too many quiet spells, a great result from one of the nicest anglers on the bank
