The wet, wet, wet didn’t stop the fish, fish, fish for Mr Makins

roy-makins-12-11-16
Roy Makins, GOT Baits, peg 3, 74-0-0

The weather man said it would start raining at 7am and it did and only eased for the weigh in, Roy fished a 4mm expanded pellet most of the way across to the far bank and land 27 carp not a silver fish in sight, this is the second week that the silver fish haven’t showed, Roy wasn’t complaining

Steve Crawley makes this his first Lake John victory and scopes the golden peg as well

steve-crawley-2016
Steve Crawley, Redbridge Lakes, peg 14, 54-12-0 golden peg

Steve has been a regular at the lake for a while now and has honed his skills on the top lake but without achieving the top honours well today that all changed and lets face it if your going to win you might as well wait until your on a golden peg, pellet attack for Steve on two lines 12m was the long line and a 6m line both produced a steady run of fish without too many quiet spells, a great result from one of the nicest anglers on the bank

  • Mick Scanlan, Oakwood Angling, peg 38, 48-0-0

It was a Fireworks win for Roy Stanley….

Roy Stanley bottom lake 2016
Roy Stanley, Lake John Fishery, peg 24, 53-4-0

What a cold snap it was not even a pocket full of bangers would keep you warm but Roy braved the elements and slowly put together a few fish just off the far bank margin, Roy put his fair in the trusted pellet and plugged away feeding very little and teasing a few bites in between shivering, no silver fish caught during the match today only carp so those bream must be sulking big time.

  • Andy Gregory, Drennan-Borden/Spotted Fin, peg 19, 42-2-0

Rob Dean adopted the full winter approach with mag and ground bait….

rob-dean-wednesdays-winner-3-11-16
Rob Dean, Lake John Fishery, peg 9, 85-0-0

The weather is on the turn and the natural baits is where its going to be for the for seeable future, Rob started on a 12m line feeding very generously with ground bait and dead maggot and just like the rest of the field it was a slow start but Rob was soon putting together some better silver fish and so mid match decided to repeat this on the shorter 6m line, it was a bite a chuck from 2pm onwards and a great final tally almost 30lb ahead of the nearest angler.
