Sunday 24th January 2016, Lake John – Drennan – winter League round 4

Tony Cassidy 24.1.2016

Tony Cassidy, Maver-Image, peg 12, 38-0-0, 28pts

Tony drew last weeks section winning peg and had a decent de-brief from Bob Jarvis section winner before the match and took all the necessary artillery that he needed to the peg like any good angler would, long pole bulk feeding micro pellet with a juicy 4mm expander on the hook, Tony fished the peg long at 14.5m and also caught past the feed, proper fish, you know them big splashy ones that you drop in your kept that you just cant keep quiet, all these fish were assisted by his very own “surpurb”, new pellet float range, Tony’s words not mine, however they are good, you are a star just like your little sister…….well done mate

Wednesday Open Match 20th January 2016, Top Lake

The Lakes have got there winter lids on and the attendances tumble, Five become Four this wednesday as Kenny Farrell heads home…

famous five wednesday open
Paul Solen, Lake John-Hollow Angling, peg 39, 36-0-0

Only one corner of the lake was fishable and the four crazy fools that wanted to continue the traditional mid week open started a little bit later with a walk off draw and battled it out for what was always going to be a hard slog, but fishing unto the ice with a dead red maggot shocked all, the bites were slow but the fish were big and Draw bag Solen surprised himself because he hasn’t had a combined weight like this in the past month, maggot over ground bait

Sunday 10th January 2016, Lake John – Drennan – winter League round 3

With a threat of snow by the end of the week the fish are sulking and the weights tumble…

Trevor Stanley 10.1.2016
Trevor Stanley, Lake John Fishery, peg 11, 29-2-0, 28pts

Trevor started the match on the tip and stuck with it for the first hour with some success but not enough to stick with it so a look on the waggle and the long pole, again not lots of action but looking around the match no-one was doing very well so it was another look on the tip but this time a straight lead and a carp almost instantly a great change of tactic for the sort on bonus fish you look for on a tuff winters match, two more carp were achieved with a bit of two-ing and throwing through the match rotating all the lines to be as productive as possible, the long pole was the slowest method on the day with the waggler proving the best method for general catching… carp in the winter on a league round……….cheat, great pout…..lol

Saturday 9th January 2016, Bottom Lake

Winter has arrived and the fish are the first to know it as 10 men scratch a few fish together…

Paul Grant, 9.1.2016
Paul Hyde, Browning-Wickford, peg 24, 18-12-0

Its all the Paul’s for 1, 2 and 3 today and yet another hard but close match, the weather is on the turn and the fish are already on shut down mode, Hydie managed a few fish on the maggot and the pellet giving his mate Granty a fishing lesson and beating him by a margin of only 10oz’s, Granty pictured above as the nearly winner, he looks pretty pleased with himself though…

Micky Scan 2015
Mick Scanlan, Oakwood Angling, peg 36, 67-4-0

  • We have had all the wind and rain you could wish for in the past few weeks so a break in the weather was very well come and Micky Scan wagered a win that you would be proud of in the summer months, 6mm expander pellet to the hook and a very generous pullting of pellet almost doubled the nearest weight, two carp and a plentiful day of bites, NICE….

Geoff Lockwood 3.1.2016
Geoff Lockwood, South London Angling, peg 28, 29-0-0

The weather man said it would rain and it did, the wind was blowing as well and the entire right hand side of the lake was in the eye of the storm, Geoff was on the back bank and made a decision early to go for an all out waggle approach and fired 6mm expanders at the float at about 20m, the fish were sporadical but Geoff just stuck to it and just caught odd fish as they came along, two bonus new year tench were very welcome on such a terrible day, one angler said it was a very enjoyable day apart from the fishing and the weather.lol, made me laugh
