Yet another battering from the wind meant pole presentation was going to be impossible…

Stuart Bracey New years eve, eve 30.12.15
Stuart Bracey, Shimano-Dynamite Baits, peg 12, 37-8-0, Golden peg

Stuart returns to the venue after a break of about 18 months and draws in a great area on the right hand bank, but the one factor you couldn’t allow for was the strength of the wind, this was a problem for 80% of the anglers today, Stuart started on the tip with a 12 inch hook length and a grain of corn to the hook for a very slow response but a change to a bunch of dead maggots with an open end feeder filled with micro’s and plugged with ground bait had an instant result, ignoring the fact Lake John is a reputable silver fish venue Stu turns into a carp angler and landed four knicks all the golden peg money, what a cheat and his mate Nigel Swallow next to him, give you a tip chaps don’t rock up and bag loads of carp on your first visit in god knows when and expect to be popular……lol, great to see Mr Bracey again, bloody cheat and golden peg thief.

Santa really help fill Draw bags net today with a few silvers and a ho ho ho bonus carp on the tip…

Paul Solen Christmas week 2015
Paul Solen, Lake John Fishery-Hollow Angling, peg 10, 44-4-0, 28pts

Filled with Christmas cheer and the uncanny nack to draw sock on hence the nick name (Draw bag), Paul started on the popped up bread for no bites a a quick look on the same line with a cage feeder and two dead red maggots produced an almost instant carp, a few more skimmers followed but it was down to business on the pole line at 10m pouring in micro’s and 4mm expander to the hook which kept the match flowing, a last chance chuck on the tip produced one more carp that shed the hook but it didn’t matter Paul ended round 2 of the winter league on a high and maximum points.

Strong winds over the past couple of days was going affect how to approach todays near sell out open…

Trevor Stanley 23.12.2015
Trevor Stanley, Lake John Fishery, peg 11, 42-0-0

Trevor took the waggler approach today mainly due to the gusting wind and the fact that pole presentation was never going to be very easy, Trevski started the match on the popped up bread and had some success early doors with a bonus carp, but the waggler line and the 6mm expander to the hook a copy of the Ken Farrell tactics of weeks gone by was by far the best method, skimmers and bream plus yet another bonus carp all added to this festive win, this is an early Christmas present to his dear Mum who is on the road to recovery in hospital and with a bit of luck will be coming home tomorrow, here’s to a very Merry Christmas at the Stanley’s this year

Sunday 20th December 2015, Lake John – Drennan – winter League practice round

In angling there are the good the bad and lucky, Lucky old Simon has a mid match chuck for a carp and lands one the lucky git…

Simon Willsmore xmas week winner
Simon Willsmore, Drennan-D+A Tackle, peg 12, 33-8-0

Simon started the match on the feeder casting fairly tight to the island which had a great affect with a maggot on a short 6” hook length the tip went round which kept him busy for the early part of the match, a look on the long pole line was always a must but the wind made presenting bait tricky so switching between the pole and the tip kept a few fish trickling in, a mid match chuck to the island produced a wrap round and a 18lb carp was mugged, Simon then played the fish in yours truly’s peg, the dirty git, then asked me to take a picture of it just like we were doing a feature, good job i like him, a run of fish on the long pole line late secured a victory…..but only just, 8oz’s off his tail was Ben Coss, unlucky Ben an honest bag of fish, another great match chaps, Merry Christmas all….

Bob Jarvis round 1 2015 winter league

Bob Jarvis, Lake John Fishery, peg 2, 48-0-0, 28pts

Well the Lake John winter league has started and this year Drennan have come on board and backed the event, so a big thanks to all the lads at Drennan and as this winter series gains in popularity we have an increased number of anglers this year, Bob Jarvis drew a peg that has no real known form but with plenty of experience on the lake he set out with a maggot and ground bait approach at 14m, bigger fish seemed to be out long and Bisto Bob had a brilliant day and an awesome net of silver fish, skimmers and big dollopy bream, now thats how to start a winter series, well done Bob.

This was the first frost to speak about and therefore was always going put the weights down, but there is no knocking how close these matches are on the top lake this time of the year, so Kenny Farrell just does Kenny’s thing and keeps it simple and of course moans about nothing at all slowly winding everyone up as he nets yet another big skimmer, he loves winding people up lol, another pellet and waggler win for the Farrell, mean while Dan Varney and John Arthur complete a stopwatch feature and new Drennan keep nets and landing nets are delivered as Drennan come on board to sponsor the winter league this year, this is going to be a great series for all involved starts Sunday
