Wednesday Open Match 28th October 2015, Top Lake

Heavy rain fall normally is the kiss of death on the Wednesday open but not today, yet another great match…

paul solen 28.10.15

Paul Solen, Lake John-Hollow Angling, peg 11, 72-12-0

Solen is back with a vengeance and has a great day on the silvers with the odd interference from the odd carp or two, popped up bread in the early part of the match produced an early carp and then it was down to the not so long pole as the rain just kept falling as it had done most of the night, draw bag Solen found that 4mm expander at 10m and a very generous helping of micro pellets every put in, plenty of proper bream and two other carp that were above the 10lb Lake John rule, nice return to the lake for Mr drawbag Solen

Micky Scan is da man edging a victory by a margin of just 4oz’s….

Micky Scan 2015

Mick Scanlan, Oakwood Angling, peg 6, 46-0-0

With the clocks about to fall back todays match was always going to be slightly more difficult than in previous weeks, and with rain forecast the results were bound to be affected, Mick searched the peg for inspiration and with the usual micro pellet and 4mm expander pellet combo the fish took a while before they would get on the feed, but no-one would have guessed the match would have been this close, with only 8oz’s separating the top three, Dave Flanagan was only 4oz’s behind the lead and Granty with his new goggles just 4oz’s behind him, great match in not such great conditions.

Golden pegs were plentiful today so there was a high chance of it going this week and yep it was won by Prestons Jason Collins

jason collins 2015
Jason Collins, Preston, peg 33, 145-4-0

So Jay Collins rocks up with father and son Harold and a grin on his face all pleased to see me and i promptly reminded him he has been here for 5 years and what is he grinning for, anyway loads of micky taking about how he has aged terribly, we had to get down to the business of sorting the draw out, three golden pegs were draw and JC draws bang on the best peg in the world peg 33, bringing his Tylers Common skills to the venue Jason potted corn down the edge at 13m towards the boat house and snared 15 carp up to 16lb, proving that for a well established silver fish venue it has still got a huge head of big carp, a great performance from the Preston rod and a nice pocket full of dosh see you in another five years Jay, nice smile didn’t realise you had teeth you should show them more often they are in quite good order, great result JC

Granty thinks he’s back at Redbridge with this run of form…

paul grant pout
Paul Grant, Redbridge-Lake John, peg 6, 73-0-0

Granty has had a great run down at his local Redbridge Lakes so a few weeks ago he came to mix it up with the big boys and with a huge element of luck and and a smidgen of skill he has finally got it sussed, micro potting micro pellets and loose feeding 4mm expanders over the top gave Paul the edge this week, mainly carp but a health 28lb of silvers added a bit of variety to the day, he has the same luck as his mate Hydie alright blokes when you get to know them……lol

Redbridge boss Gordon Bullock give the Lake John regulars an hydieing…

gordon bullock
Gordon Bullock, Redbridge Lakes, peg 10, 87-12-0

Gordon used to be a regular at the lake until five years ago when he realised his dream of Redbridge Lakes, now the days of travelling to other fishery’s is all but over, however this is the second time here and now on the leader board proving that this elephant hasn’t forgotten how its done at, fishing a shorter 10m line Gordon has fished a skimmer match which resulted in 40lb of silvers and then four carp just for good measure, the clocks go next weekend and the winter fishing at Lake John will begin, roll on the winter league.

There’s no stopping the Browning boy from doing the biz but this week its a bumper golden peg payday….

hydie golden peg win
Paul Hyde, Browning-Wickford, peg 24, 68-8-0

Well same result with the same method of feeding but from a different peg and to top it all the jammy git was sitting on a golden peg so this resulted in a bumper payday, he’s got to start paying tax on this surely. Not the sort of bloke you take to easily but all that said not a bad club angler and these last few weeks he has proved he has got more luck than talent when it comes to catching a few fish, I mean he has won this match by a margin of 8oz’s how lucky is that, lol, 4mm expander to the hook and loose feeding 4mm pellet by hand down the track and running a new GORILLA elastic through the top kit Paul has got it all sorted by a country mile, Paul was dealt some sad news this week hearing of the passing of his ex-father in law Ron an all round top man so this win is dedicated to Ron you will be missed, well done today Paul great tribute

Top Kit Lip does it again with his meat on the short line…

dennis lipscombe peg 38
Dennis Lipscombe, Oakwood Angling, peg 38, 61-8-0

Autumn is fast approaching us as the leaves on the willow trees are turning brown and the fish appear to have moved out into slightly deeper water, well that’s for most people Dennis stuck to his guns and with 8mm cubes of meat on a slow sinking tiny waggle on his top kit he made it work, but it only happen for him in the last hour, how’s your luck Den
