The wind and the rain blew and the a cold chill in the air looked like it was going to make things slow going, and yes its fair to say the weights have dropped this week but even when the elements throw a spanner in the works you can still generate a few fish, two lines at 5m for Trevski and a juicy margin carp peg and today it worked, get in there ……

Amos gave the pellets a week off and bagged on the worm instead…

Martin Amos, Angling Direct, peg 6, 131-4-0

I know what your thinking but its true Amos does know how to put a worm on the hook he just looks at them as if they are long pellets, well he must have been given them because its not a bait that Martin would be comfortable buying, a bed of micro pellets and a worm to the hook only, skimmers and carp in the immediate margin, a bagging machine i recon he would have given the Basildon Babe a run this week…

And its new blood this week that dominates the top spot as Ken Broomfield on his first visit silenced all the regulars with 113lb

Ken Broomfield, Individual, peg 14, 113-0-0

These things sometimes just happen when a complete newby turns up and give all the regulars a lesson in how to fish the place with an outsides point of view, Ken wasn’t completely in the dark as he travelled with Maver man Mr Graham Dack so peg information was as current as the second hand ticking on your watch, Dacky was drawn next to Ken so this made for a great battle, Ken fed a hugh bed of micros and then topped up with 4mm and 6mm expander early doors and latter part of the match plenty of corn, four cap landed but only two over the 10lb limit, the rest of the net was all silvers, well done to you Ken and welcome to Lake JohnFishery

Basildon Babe is cleaning up and this week its a golden peg bonus as well….

ATT00001
Paul Hyde, Browning-Wickford, peg 8, 127-12-0, golden peg

The trusted pellet was the start of the match but switching to the meat produced bigger fish and with the first weigh in of carp tipping the scales at 55lb it was the turn of the skimmers in a separate net and this was an incredible 72lb of skimmers proving once again that this fishery makes run of the mill anglers look fantastic and gives em a real moral boost, and with performances like that all the anglers know that i’m there with a few kind words of support, Well done again this week to the Basildon Babe and all that extra dosh this week

Is this the best peg in the south of England well today it definitely was but the carp played there part in this match with all of the top four anglers catching 10lb plus carp, corn to the hook and plenty of tucker cupped in this is how the venue is going and its only just turned warm so we have got some great fishing ahead of us, even 60 year old cab drivers can win hear, well done Ern

Basildon Babe Paul Hyde

Basildon Babe Paul Hyde

Paul Hyde, Browning-Wickford, peg 16, 107-8-0

A day of two seasons pouring rain in the morning followed by beautiful sunshine in the afternoon but this didn’t affect the fish they just kept grazing on through what ever the weather, Paul stuck to his game plan of drip feeding pellets through a kinder potting down the track and the inner margins, the long pole was a no no because of the gusting strong wind which for once wasn’t coming out of his body, yet another solid performance from the Basildon babe, lol

Pellet, pellet and more pellet, simple really with an occasional change of hook bait to the corn it was mainly close margin work and as the weather seems to warm up the fish are only going to get closer to the shallow margins, i predict big weights this summer chaps, watch this space.

Dennis is not known for fishing the long pole ever so why would today be any different feeding two lines down the margins left and right of the keepnet, loose feeding 6mm expander pellets why make things difficult Dennis recons if the fish don’t come to his feed then its there tuff luck, lol

With A steady match from the off Graham selected the big fish by hooking a piece of corn and maintained this most positive of attacks just work, potting big cups of pellet and corn it was like a mid summers day, but the match really transformed about 2pm when the margin line sprung into life, it was like Christmas and new year all at once, mark my words folks this is going to be a bumper year at Lake John …
