The winner and the wally, O’Brien whacks em this week while Granty supports the lower levels of the match…

When he’s not inventing revolutionary new products he spend a few hours on a Saturday catching a few fish, it was all down the track today for Kevin hooking and feeding 4mm expander pellet dead depth and kinder potting 6 pellets every put in, a close match to the finish with the top three only 3lb apart and it was the odd rouge carp that bumped the weights this week, Granty (pictured left) just couldn’t put the fish together today proving once again that even good anglers have it bad some times, not that Granty is a good angler far from it he is terrible, he is only marginally better than ex-Essex angling legend Chris Vandervliet………lol…. I don’t know how I get away with some of this stuff I write, but believe me every sentence written is filled with utmost respect for all of those that join us each week, and between me and you I think Chris is probably one of the most improved anglers of the year so far he wasn’t even on the match today and I’ve given him some stick ….ha ha

Today was truly a day to be on the bank catching a few fish, very mild and warm lovley, it will probably chuck it down the weekend….

Mark Parris, Lake John Fishery, peg 9, 43-0-0

Marky Mark is flying high as this makes it two wins back to back, feeding micro’s on the long and short pole lines, Mark favoured his 6mm expander pellet to the hook on both lines and recons that he had a split weight over the two feed lines, the bigger 6mm expanders seem to keep the bigger weight building bream in the peg longer, steady as ever Parris just pips Redbridge Royalty Sir William of Everitt, this is more like it chaps let’s hope the weather continues into the weekend for round 5 of the winter league, this pic is one of many Parris bloopers I have on file…….some people catch em but he can catch em as well, well caught Marky

Pellet Dunn the job for Paul today, after a few weeks away he soon finds his feet again…

Paul Dunn, Lake John Fishery, peg 5, 42-8-0

Paul Dunn, Lake John Fishery, peg 5, 42-8-0

Sitting across from Paul was England vet Dicky Carr, and unfortunately it was a one horse race today with the Dunn-myster pelleting his way to a very comfortable victory and almost trebling Dicky’s wieght, Paul set three lines up in his peg and caught over all three so it was just one of those days when it all went right for him skimmers and carp in a very mixed season day with sunshine rain and hailstones, not nice…

Mark took some time out last week due to a disastrous result the week before from a good peg in an area that has been producing a few fish but as all anglers know this happens from time to time, so a week off and all wounds licked he was back on form, 6mm expander pellet and a positive attitude produced the bigger bream and even a winter tench, half his fish caught on the 8m line and the rest at 13m……..Marky is back.

One man and his mojo, you can say what you want about the Dr Spock head gear and his tongue hangin g out from last week but this man is on fire when it comes to catching a few fish, pellet down the track and just short of the far bank, kinder potting micro pellets and a smidge of ground bait with a 4mm expander pellet to the hook was the approach for the Browning ace, he has got both lakes absolutely in the bag at the moment and with a huge weight today he must already be looking forward to round 4 of the winter league tomorrow, sleep tight champ….. if you win tomorrow I am going to photo bomb your victory pic….lol

Wednesday 11th Febuary 2015, Top Lake

This photo bombing is getting popular as Nippress bomb’s Redbridge finest Bill Everitt…

This peg showed a bit of form Sunday but nothing like todays winning bag of the finest silver fish in Essex, it’s got to be Bill did look a bit excited at the prospect of drawing the winning peg from Sunday and soon propelled his way along the bank with a cheeky little grin firmly embossed on his chops, known at Lake John for the odd pre-match plunge Bill opted out today and approached the whole match in a positive and conventional manner, 13m of pole and a fairly reserved introduction of micro pellet at the start of the match with a 4mm expander to the hook, a fantastic days fishing for all today as temperatures lift slightly this week.

LAKE JOHN-ANGLING DIRECT WINTER LEAGUE practice round

Sunday 8th Febuary top lake

It’s a double win weekend for Browning-Wickford ace Paul Hyde….

Paul Hyde, Browning-Wickford, peg 12, 35-4-0

WL-05

Paul romped to victory yesterday on the bottom lake and had a 14lb clear margin today so all in all not a bad weekend, so what a difference a week is because in last week’s 3rd round Paul could only manage 2pts and was in fact joint last on the match, so just when you think you have got this fishing malarkey sussed in bites you clean in the arse, this weekend Paul licked last week’s wounds clean, starting today on the maggot and groundbait at 15m and within the first hour got a groove on and with a switch to pellet in the second half of the match Paul lead the match from the first whistle, I took the micky out of his hat yesterday and rightly so but today he gets nothing but praise, top man, a good job well done

Well he was last on round 3 of the winter league last Sunday, so he will be feeling a bit better this week with a result, as the slightly milder weather allows us to go back down the bottom lake this week….

Well where do we start with this…… last week I sat opposite Paul when he only achieved one bite and one perch in a whole five hole match, what a numpty, however in he’s defence he worked his conkers off for a zero reward, I asked him to allow me a picture of this disastrous result and he refused, but today as he fished pellet just short of the far bank and bagged a respectable net of winter silver fish he couldn’t wait to give a little pose to the camera, but he should have addressed his head dress because he looks like his super hero idol Batman, not Barrymore any no no no he’s gone all manly, get in there Hydie you have got your mojo back, …..Batman or Bat Fink I’m not sure……. not a great look anyway ha ha ha, I love it

The weather men are telling us there is a beast from the east about to hit us, cold winds from Siberia and Russia are making angling a little bit uncomfortable to put it politely, Steve drew on the colder bank today and started on the ground bait and maggot but soon switched to a shorter 11m pellet line and managed to winkle out one or two better stamp of fish, this switch proved to be fruitful as Clarky collected the golden dollar.
