It was wet windy cold and blooming all round horrible weather and even snow in the mid part of the match, so when Trevor told me that he had majority of fish on 6mm expander pellet at about 7m, I was amazed in fairness it was to windy to present a pole rig at anything longer than 7m, and just so you know it was Trevor’s Dad Mick that was hiding behind the perch in Wednesday’s open match, everyone of Trevor’s fish was over 1lb, proper fish and a proper days fishing, weather not nice well done lads you done good…

Someone just back from his holiday and cocked the draw up so a re-draw was called and there was only one angler that really moaned, my apologise to everyone today but once again this place has thrown weights of fish in areas you just wouldn’t fancy, so even though I cocked up it might just be worth holding the moaning to the end of the match when the fat lady has stopped singing, anyway as the whistle blew the rain started and the wind blew a Hooley so this meant the long pole was going to be almost impossible, Colin started on the longer line 10m with micro pellet and maggot but could only catch roach just like Chris Vandervliet did during Sunday’s open, but a quick change of approach to the 6mm proved to be the edge he needed, bream to 3lb and almost 1lb skimmers, obviously worked the peg a bit harder than my mate Chris did on Sunday, proper angler well done Col…

My mate David does draw this peg often so it’s about time he threw up a win in it, plenty of room on the match with so few anglers out, but credit where its due a few fish to be had and a very respectable 1 st place, congratulations mate

Maggot and ground bait for Simon virtually a copy of his feature with Matt Godfrey and Pole Fishing magazine a couple of days earlier, cold weather forecast and even a mention of snow see the numbers drop this week but once again if you adapt your approach then this place can still provide a few fish, Simon proved once again that with good water craft and of course gifted with good looks and a pretty good stroke of luck in the draw bag anything is possible, I’m not even gonna mention the colour of his hair it’s just not important……………we will just leave it there, well done Si

There is no stopping Royski with a win last week and then a cheeky little win on a lake he has hardly ever fished, this just proves that class always shines through but in Roy’s case it was just an absolute tip top bung hole draw, there was a fella in there with his guide dog in the week he also emptied it, ha ha ha, 12m of pole and kinder potting micro pellet with a 4mm expander to the hook, for the this huge winter bag of silvers, well done the Royski….

LAKE JOHN-ANGLING DIRECT WINTER LEAGUE 2014-15 ROUND 4

Bill Everitt, Redbridge Lakes, peg 10, 37-8-0, 26pts

Off the back of a cheeky little win on Wednesday Bill absolutely made this match his own, surrounded by angling greatness in Miller and Vandervliet was this going to phase Bill today definitely not he started the match as a replica of Wednesday’s match and never looked back, pellet at 13m cupping micro’s and 4mm expanders to start and then a very careful feeding process for the duration, pinging a few pellets via the catapult seemed advantageous, proper skimmers and bream the one’s that make a big splosh as you put them in the keepnet, quality bag of fish and a pile of points round for Bill and his partner Mr Miller…………a big tongue out for Bill

A very accomplished angler and paired with his team mate Gary Miller in this years winter league Bill has proved that with this cheeky little win they are serious contenders for the crown this year, wet conditions again this week but it didn’t stop the silver fish from gorging on those 4mm expander pellets, two lines for Bill 11m and 13m and you will be pleased to know no anglers fell in during the making of this competition, arise sir Bill…………….my glass is raised for ya already mate.

Windy?…... not many Benny, they say the jet stream has dropped, judging by the tree’s today it’s about 20ft from ground level, it wants to hurry up and get back up to 35,000 ft where it belong, Roy fished down the track with maggot and pellets over micro pellet, carp were plentiful and when the wind pushed to hard it was a quick retreat long down the peg to fish the margin one of those steady matches for Roy and another pay day.

Mark Parris, Lake John Fishery, peg 32, 31-8-0

This peg was only good for third place on Sunday during the second round of the winter league and the reason for that is simple Vandervliet made a right pigs ear of it, anyway that’s enough about him Mark set to his peg on a shorter line with the knowledge of strong winds forecast so opted for the more manageable 10m line, fishing 4mm expander pellet over ground bait for very respectable days fishing mind you just like his old school mate Vandervliet its very rare you’ll see him on a bad peg either, lol, it’s really not worth winning a match here because you never get any praise from the bloke who writes these reports, and apparently there are a few people that log on and have a look just to see who is gonna get a gobbing off, this was true of Mark’s father in law Peter Dighton who regularly clicked on the site to have a read and chuckle at how well the boys have done on the match’s, sadly Peter passed away on Jan 3rd Saturday morning very suddenly. Mark would like to dedicate this win to Peter, who was also a regular club angler to Lake John and a sad loss, all our thoughts go out to family at this time from everyone at Lake John Fishery. Peter Dighton one of lifes true gentleman
